THE RICH legacy of women in agriculture in western Victoria will be celebrated at the West Wimmera Women on Farms Gathering, to be held in picturesque Harrow from March 24-26.
The Women on Farms Gathering is an annual event, moving from region to region each year.
Treasurer and spokesperson for the event Fiona Cameron said the organising committee had worked hard to put together a program with something for people of all interests.
“There are a number of workshops and tours, covering topics as diverse as aboriginal bush knowledge through to biosecurity and zoonomics,” she said.
Mrs Cameron said the event was designed to bring women in agriculture together, along with showing off the bounty of West Wimmera Shire, Victoria’s fourth largest local government by area but the smallest by population.
“The tours are designed to show off some of the hidden charms of our towns and regions.”
“From Harrow they will head out to other areas and look at what the local community is doing.
“In Apsley, for instance, the focus is on small town rejuvenation and how a determined group of locals has breathed new life into the area, while the Edenhope tour shows how that town is setting itself up as a Mecca for retirees.”
Mrs Cameron said the Women On Farms event would kick off on the Friday in Harrow, with the highlight of the day a performance of the feted Harrow Sound and Light Show.
On Saturday, patrons can choose between the tours or workshops before reassembling in Harrow in the evening.
She said the organising committee was thrilled with the range of speakers they had been able to attract.
“Among those speaking include Kate Auty, who has been involved in a number of major agricultural and natural resource management projects, renowned author Liz Harfull and fashion designer Leila Sweeney.”
