PRICES for heavy cattle came back slightly from the previous month at the Strathalbyn feature cattle sale on Friday, but light types were in hot demand with restockers.
Elders Strathalbyn branch manager Danny Reynolds said prices were still very solid.
“I’d say this sale gave local restockers more of a chance to buy than they’d had in previous months,” he said.
Landmark Strathalbyn agent Bradley Walker said it was pleasing to see greater numbers come in, up to 750, compared to the 500 advertised.
“On the lighter cattle, strong restocker interest was still evident there,” he said.
“There was a good selection of cows and calves, which met solid restocker demand as well.”
The highest price a head for steers was $1430. That price was paid for a pen of four Simmental-Angus, 445 kilograms, from RA&K Bowman, Tarcowie, which were knocked down to Thomas Foods International buyer Petar Bond.
