Cows with CAF to $2640
PTIC heifers to $2420
IT was standing room only at the annual Mount Pleasant beef breeders and weaners cattle sale on Thursday last week.
Landmark auctioneer Colin Fawcett said the sale attracted more than 80 registered bidders.
“Buyers came from the Mallee, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Riverland and local areas,” he said.
“There was good demand across all grades of cattle.”
A major feature of the sale was the dispersal of an Angus herd from Richard and Elizabeth Ball, Littlehampton.
They topped the sale with 10 Angus cows with their first Angus-cross calves at-foot which made $2640.
The Balls’ 14 Angus cows with their second CAF made $2460, while four cows with their third CAF made $2480 and another four cows with their fourth CAF made $2500.
The couple sold five Angus-cross cows with their first and second CAF for $2100, along with five pregnancy-tested in-calf cows at $2520 and a further 10 PTIC cows at $2200.
They also sold six Angus heifers, PTIC to an Angus-Limousin bull, for $2360 and 11 unjoined Angus heifers for $1400.
Another vendor selling near the top of the sale for cows with CAF was Poonwatta, Eden Valley, with two Red Angus-crosses at $2320.
AJ&JI Bowd, Mount Pleasant, sold four Shorthorn cows, PTIC to a Murray Grey bull, for $1600, while SP Holt, Eden Valley, had three Red Angus-cross cows, PTIC to a Poll Hereford bull, make the same price.
Topping the PTIC heifers section was Dopen, Rockleigh, with six Murray Greys at $2420. Pewsey Vale, Lyndoch, sold two Poll Hereford heifers, PTIC to an Angus bull, for $1980, while SP Holt sold a Red Angus-cross heifer, PTIC to a Poll Hereford bull, for $1660.
In the steer sales, JS&MA Teusner, Eden Valley, sold seven Angus to $1500, averaging $1365, while Tara Hills Pastoral, Tungkillo, had seven Santa Gertrudis-crosses at $1050.
JB Conte, Birdwood, sold seven Angus steers to $1100, while M Heitmann, Eden Valley, sold 10 to $1180.
