Angaston Agricultural Bureau’s annual hogget competition is on again on Friday, March 24, at Keyneton Park.
Commercial Merino breeders are encouraged to enter three 2016-drop wethers with lambs teeth in at least one of the three sections.
The classes are: open; later lambing for those with June-drops or later; and one for Angaston Bureau members.
Bureau president Mark Grossman says the long-running competition is a great way for entrants to benchmark their genetics with others in the region.
Prior to judging, a forum on sheep health and disorders will be held at 1pm.
PIRSA Biosecurity SA animal health advisor Chris Van-Dissel will discuss pink eye, clostridial diseases, worms, blowflies, ovine johnes disease and lupinosis.
Adelaide & Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management district officer David Hughes will speak on summer weeds affecting livestock health, including caltrop and silverleaf nightshade.
A Schools Merino Judging Challenge is being held in the morning, with 60 students from six schools learning how to assess and observe objective assessment of wool.
Once again, the Ag Bureau is providing bursaries of up to $200 a school to help secondary students cover entry to the SA Sheep Expo in April.
Hogget entries close on March 17.
