Last weekend’s Lucindale Wool Show was the most successful yet, cracking 100 fleeces for the first time.
Fleeces came from as far afield as Wirrulla and Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula to Ouyen in the Vic Mallee for the state’s second largest wool competition.
Kevin and Geoff Crook, Tamaleuca Merino stud, Ouyen, Vic won grand champion fleece with a 11.6 kilogram ram’s fleece which impressed for its evenness, weight and crimp.
It will be on display at Landmark’s wool site at the upcoming South East Field Days.
The McBride group of properties surrounding Lucindale provided enormous support and took out the champion fine and medium wool sections.
Woolumbool wool producer Mark Delfabro was a commendable second in a very large medium wool section.
Cooranga, Lucindale won their third consecutive broad wool award with Simon and Hayley Webb from Wirrulla runner up.
The crossbred section was dominated by the Hocking families at Conmurra.
The fleeces were judged by TechWool Trading’s Steve Lomman.
The Lucindale Wool Show is a fundraiser for the Lucindale Area School and.Balharry Memorial Kindergarten. Around $10,000 has been raised in donated wool in the past three years.
Major sponsors included Mini Jumbuk and Quality Wool.
