A STYLISH stud sire prospect from Wrattenbullie stud, Naracoorte was the star of the Diamond Poll Hereford multi-vendor bull sale on Wednesday last week at Mundulla, fetching a new sale record of $21,000.
Wrattenbullie Langford made more than doubled the previous best price vendors Rod & Gayle, Brad and Alana Davies had enjoyed in their stud’s 40 year history.
After a $10,000 opening bid the June 2015 drop son of Yalgoo Beretta F069 attracted intense bidding.
It was knocked down to Alastair & Jayne Day, Allendale stud, Bordertown at $21,000.
“It is a well balanced bull with good length and a beautiful mover- it is a good outcross for us,” Mr Day said.
Rod Davies said the heifer’s first calf, which they have collected semen in for in-herd use, had only got better as it got older.
“It is so sound and such an easy doing calf.”
The Davies family had a cracking sale selling seven of eight bulls for a $9000 average including Lot 12 to PS&KE Vandepeer, Kingston for $11,000.
Overall the three SE vendors sold 38 of 45 bulls for a $7197 average- up nearly $1600 on 2016’s sale.
The long-running sale had previously been held at Yoho, Frances but new sale hosts Ross, Andrew and Tiffany Bennett, Bendulla stud, Mundulla built an impressive new Spanlift shed and selling pens.
They were the sale’s largest vendor selling 27 of 30 bulls for a $7185 average, including four bulls for $10,000 or more.
Bruce and Helen Parker, HJ Parker, Kingston kicked the sale off strongly buying the $11,500 top priced bull from the Bendulla draft at Lot 1.
Bendulla Freemantle L076 was among the second drop of calves sired by Bowen Freemantle F133.
Mr Parker bought four others for their stations near Louth in western NSW.
At $11,000 KS&SD Higgs, Port MacDonnell bought one of the stand-outs of the draft, Bendulla Horizon L096.
A wide geographical spread of buyers converged on the Diamond Poll Hereford bull sale from the SE and western Vic to western NSW.
But like many of the Poll Hereford on-property sales this season it was the northern pastoral support which ensured a solid clearance.
Repeat clients Locky and Paddy Weir, Todd River Pastoral Co via Alice Springs, NT bought in the top end of the catalogue with four bulls for a $7625 average.
This included Lot 9, Bendulla Gambler L133 for $10,000.
Elders’ Lewis Bruggemann had an order for four bulls for Partacoona Station via Port Augusta at $5625 average and long-time clients P&S Byrnes, Mildura, Vic bought three bulls to $7500.
Bendulla stud principal Andrew Bennett said he was very happy with their first time hosting the sale and the near total clearance, considering they had increased their numbers.
He said buyers had embraced the video sale format and it definitely made for a quicker sale.
Brett & Amanda Shepherd, Roeston Park, Kybybolite sold four of seven bulls to a $4500 high and $4125 average.
There were bulls for all budgets throughout the catalogue, with 13 selling between $4000 and $5000.
Elders and Landmark conducted the sale with Ross Milne and Richard Miller the auctioneers.
