LAKE View cropper John Coffey is still harvesting peas – one of the best crops he's ever had – but weeds are beckoning.
Mr Coffey, with wife Debbie, crops 470ha of wheat, barley and peas in a sharefarming arrangement with Tony and James O’Connell, Snowtown.
They have sprayed the majority of the property with glyphosate and Garlon with sulphate of ammonia as a wetter, but more sprays would be needed.
“The rain has caused a germination of weeds, in particular wire weed, potato weed and caltrop,” Mr Coffey said. "Volunteer cereals are also running to head.”
Mr Coffey said forecast rains this week would mean another spray would be required prior to seeding in late April. The property has had more than 60mm of rain for the year.
