FOR the second consecutive year, Lake Ellen Pastoral, Tintinara, bought the Butcher’s Pick at the Stoney Point sale – a bull selected by stud director Perry Gunner’s son Richard.
They received five kilograms of Coorong Angus Beef porterhouse steak for buying lot 16. Lake Ellen bought three bulls in total, averaging $9167.
Landmark stud stock manager Gordon Wood was full of praise for the even line-up, describing it as the best the stud had presented.
“There were bulls to satisfy everyone’s needs and quite a few low birth (weight) and high growth bulls,” he said.
“The data was right and the bulls were right to put over heifers.”
Demand came from both high and low rainfall areas.
“There was solid interest from pastoral areas, which started plenty of bidding, but they were unable to buy,” Mr Wood said.
Spence Dix & Co director Jonathan Spence described it as an “excellent” sale.
“The quality didn’t drop off through the sale and that was reflected in no extreme highs or extreme lows,” he said.
“Calving ease bulls, because of the numbers of retained heifers this year, were the order of the day.”
