REGIONAL fuel retailers are being asked to drop their petrol and diesel prices in the lead up to Australia Day.
RAA Senior Analyst Chris West said country prices have increased to reflect the impact of rising oil prices and the falling Australian Dollar in late 2016.
“Despite this, the wholesale price of petrol and diesel is falling now and this must be reflected in pump prices across regional SA,” Mr West said.
“We’d expect prices to hit the mid-$1.20s by Australia Day or by the end of the month, at the very least.”
The overall score in RAA’s latest Regional Fuel Ratings fell to 2.8 in December, from 3.0 in November.
“The drop in rating reflects some country retailer’s decision to boost their margins at the expense of motorists by increasing their pump prices faster than any cost increases they incurred,” Mr West said.
In the ranking, Broken Hill, NSW, claimed the top spot from Port Lincoln, with a score of 3.8 and 3.6, out of 5, respectively, with both township’s pump prices were lower than expected. Naracoorte (3.2) took third position, while Kadina (3) placed fourth in the December ratings.
For diesel, Port Lincoln had the fairest prices (4.5 out of 5) followed by Port Augusta (4.1) and Broken Hill (4.0)
Loxton had the fairest LPG prices (3.9 out of 5) followed by Renmark (3.6) and Naracoorte (3.4)
