FEMALES were red hot at the annual breeders sale at Mount Compass on Friday, with all types well-up on last year’s highest prices.
The cattle mostly went to local buyers from the Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills, but breeders also went to the South East, Riverland and Yorke Peninsula.
ProStock Livestock’s Kym Endersby said the sale offered good returns for vendors, but also value to buyers.
“Good cattle sold for good money,” he said.
Making the top price for pregnancy-tested-in-calf cows at $2800 was Horst Fehrmann, Mount Compass, with a pen of 10 Red Angus cows, due to calve in March, mated to a Red Angus bull
Last year the highest price for PTIC cows was $1750.
Glen Fern Angus, Yundi, sold seven Angus/Simmental cows, PTIC with their third calves to an Angus bull, for $2550, while Burnfoot, Hindmarsh Tiers, sold 30 Angus cows, PTIC with their second calves to Anguls bulls, Coolana and Te Mania-blood, for $2100, along with 26 at $1850.
The highest price for PTIC heifers was $2675 for 16 Angus/Friesians, 2-years-old to 2.5yo, from RC&CA Trevilyan, Myponga. The same vendor also sold a further 15 at $2450 and 15 at $2400.
Last year the highest price for PTIC heifers was $1800.
C&D Olsen, Delamere, sold 12 Angus/Friesian heifers, 2yo, PTIC to a Koolah Angus bull for $2450 and a further 14 at $2350 and 12 at $2100.
TJ Whittlesea, Myponga, sold six Angus/Friesian heifers, 2yo, PTIC to an Angus bull, for $2250, and 11 Murray Greys, 2yo, PTIC to an Angus bull, for $2100.
EW&JA Manley, Murray Bridge, sold five Angus heifers, 2yo, PTIC to a Stoney Point Angus bull, for $2000, while GJ&R Hutchinson, Myponga, sold two Red Angus heifers, 2.5yo, PTIC to Angus, for $2250.
J Golding, Kangarilla, sold four Hereford/Friesian heifers, to be preg-tested, for $2100 and JL&AB Schutz, Victor Harbor, sold six Angus heifers, PTIC to a Murray Grey bull, for $2250.
Hughes Trading, Waitpinga, sold 10 Hereford/Friesian heifers, in-calf to a Red Angus bull, for $2250.
Heifers with calves-at-foot made to $2800 for 17 Angus, 2-2.5yo, from The Tiers Pastoral, Hindmarsh Tiers.
The Tiers Pastoral also made the highest price for unjoined heifers at $1650, for 13 Angus/Friesians.
Cows with CAF made to $2700 for 17 Murray Grey cows with their third CAF by an Angus bull from P Williamson, Willow Farms, Myponga. Last year cows with CAF made to $2230.
