Kadina is once again preparing to shine as final preparations take place for this year’s Christmas in Kadina Pageant and Carols.
Victoria Square will be the hub of the festivities on Monday, December 19. Locals and visitors are urged to join in the fun from 5.30pm.
Christmas in Kadina Committee chair Neil Sawley said a dedicated band of volunteers had spent months preparing the community event, which had for years provided joy to people keen to share in the Christmas spirit.
He said the first event on the program, the Bed Push, would get underway at 5.45pm and was expected to generate a few laughs but hopefully no “casualties”.
“It’s something a bit different, teams pay their entry fee of $100 and race down the main street pushing a bed,” Mr Sawley said.
“They might have to complete a few surprise tasks along the way, such as decorating a tree – the first prize is a hospital bedpan trophy.”
While the event would no doubt be a sight to behold, Mr Sawley said, the best thing was that in the true spirit of giving, the entry fees would be donated straight to the local hospital.
With the Bed Push done and dusted, the Christmas Pageant would commence at 6.15pm, travelling around Victoria Square and down Graves Street.
Mr Sawley said there were plenty of superb vantage points on the route but arriving early was a good idea to secure one of the best spots.
“We generally have about 40 floats to see, we are well supported by local kindergartens, schools and church and community groups,” he said.
Without giving too many surprises away, Mr Sawley said, spectators could expect to see a spectacular four-metre Christmas tree on display as part of the pageant and, of course, the big man in red and white would be there.
“Father Christmas is always a highlight of the night,” he said.
At the completion of the pageant, the sweet sounds of Christmas will resonate from 6.45pm, with the staging of the carols performed by local artists in Victoria Square.
“Follow the signs to get your program with all of the words to the carols to join in,” Mr Sawley said.
The event was expected to finish by about 9.30pm.
Mr Sawley said the committee was thrilled the community had thrown its support behind the event, and the committee on the community’s behalf extended a warm welcome to people who wished to come along and enjoy it.
“And we would of course love to see as many farmers and their families as possible,” he said.
“Some local dealers will be showcasing some tractors and machinery in the pageant so there’s something for everyone.”
