THE fire danger season starts on November 15 across the Natural Resources South Australian Murray-Darling Basin region.
Emergency response agencies from across the SAMDB region came together in Berri today to discuss the season.
The annual meeting fosters close partnerships between the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, Country Fire Service, Metropolitan Fire Service, South Australian Police and State Emergency Service.
Natural Resources SAMDB Resilient Nature and Lands manager Sonia Dominelli said the pre-season fire gathering has been developing across a number of years.
“The purpose is to bring together emergency service agencies across the region with the aim of increasing our understanding of each other and our individual roles,” she said.
“This makes managing an actual emergency that bit easier.”
Natural Resources SAMDB regional fire management officer Brett Stephens said it’s important to keep building on the strong relationships with our partner agencies ensuring all come together with a coordinated response when an emergency arises.
“The annual meeting is an opportunity for members of emergency services to meet other agency staff and volunteers prior to fire danger season,” he said.
“It allows us to showcase resources to our partner agencies and view fire related equipment.
“This annual meeting provides a great networking opportunity to meet colleagues who will be working together in times of emergency and recovery.”
The meeting will also allow DEWNR to share the equipment and resources available to assist with emergencies in the region and liaise with all emergency services.
Fire restrictions will start on November 15 within the SAMDB region and will remain in place until April 15, 2017.
