PREMIER Jay Weatherill says the findings handed down by a citizen’s jury on nuclear waste storage would help inform the government’s response to the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission report.
“I will review their report, and weigh it up against all of the other data compiled across the past few months, to help inform my formal response to the Royal Commission report later this year,” he said.
One of the reasons the jury gave for not supporting a waste facility was SA’s reputation as a clean, green state.
“Participation any further in the nuclear cycle, specifically a foreign high level nuclear waste storage facility, could be detrimental to our image, “ the report states.
The jury heard from witnesses including Livestock SA chief executive officer Andrew Curtis.
“There could be individual ideological perceptions that might have an impact on purchasing produce from SA and that this would need to be investigated further through market research,” he said.
