WOONALLEE Simmental stud, Furner continued its Royal success on the South East country shows circuit winning both grand champion all breeds bull and female at the Mount Gambier Spring Show last weekend.
Woonallee Lady Killer was awarded the supreme champion all beef breeds animal by judges Rachael Wheeler, Wellington and Geordie Elliott, Hamilton, Vic and their associates Thomas Fogden, Loxton and Angus Llewellyn, Willalooka.
The March 2015 drop bull was a son of Woonallee BHR Tornado and was the supreme all breeds bull at the Royal Adelaide Show last month.
Lady Killer edged out four- year-old female Woonallee Charo H140, also owned by Tom and Lizzy Baker. Charo was the supreme exhibit at the Royal Melbourne Show.
More than 50 beef cattle from seven different breeds were shown.
In the sheep judging Graham and Di Jenke, Wattle Glen stud, Strathalbyn claimed the interbreed champion ram with their Corriedale champion. Judge Graham Day, Bordertown described the under 1.5 year old ram who was also the champion Corriedale ram at the Royal Adelaide Show and champion unhoused ram at Hamilton Sheepvention as a “stand out.”
“The beautifully balanced ram showing good strength with fine, soft, white wool,” he said.
The Galpin family, Warrawindi stud, Penola won the interbreed champion ewe with an 18 month old Poll Dorset which will be mated in an upcoming AI program.
In a rare occurrence Graham judged the Corriedales while his grandson Angus judged the other sheep breeds.
