RYEVIEW White Suffolk stud at Millicent enjoyed its best ram sale in recent years, with a total clearance and $735 average on Monday last week.
Local and interstate buyers turned out for the 9th on-property sale despite the inclement weather more reminiscent of winter than spring.
Stud principals Michael and Julie Osborne were thrilled to lift their average $67 after experiencing some disappointing sales in the past couple of years.
The 15-18-month-old rams included the first progeny from Waratah 130645, bought by the stud for $16,000 at the 2014 Royal Adelaide Show Elite Ram Sale, plus Ashmore 130266 and Days 130458.
These genetics produced a significant increase in the width and depth of the 2016 Ryeview sale rams.
Elders studstock auctioneer Tom Penna said Ryeview’s offering showed “characteristic clean heads and good wool type with very good width, bone and thickness”.
Long time clients, DJ&MA Loxton, Greenways, bought Lot 1 for $1000.
The Loxton family also bought Lot 4 at the same money and another ram at $600 through Elders Millicent.
In what has become a tradition at the sale, the Osbornes nominated a ram to donate the proceeds to the Millicent Cancer Support Group.
This year, the $1200 top price ram in Lot 2 was nominated. The son of Glengarry 122903 boasted figures of 16.58 post-weaning weight and Carcase Plus index of 192.3.
Commercial producer Andrew Lees, Tallara, Edenhope, Vic, was the successful buyer. He bought three rams averaging $916.
New client Famazos Pastoral Co, Murrabinna Station, Kingston SE, was the volume buyer with 20 rams to $800, averaging $630.
Another new client TG Bell bought eight rams to $800, averaging $681.
