LAMEROO
Yarding: 14,000
1.5yo ewes to $292
2.5yo ewes to $198
3.5yo ewes to $190
4.5yo ewes to $164
5.5yo ewes to $172
A PHENOMENAL result was achieved at the Lameroo off-shears sale on Friday, with a record high of $292 for young ewes.
It was not only 1.5-year-olds that met strong demand, with even 5.5yo ewes selling to $172.
Amazingly, almost every pen of 1.5yo ewes topped last year’s highest price of $202.
The $292 Lameroo record ewes pipped the previous high of $272 set in 2011.
The 150 September-shorn, Ridgway Advance-blood ewes were offered by Loxton couple Glen and Tracy Farr and were knocked down to Thomas DeGaris & Clarkson Penola.
Elders Lameroo branch manager Pat Larsson said it was an exceptional sale.
“The average price throughout the yarding would have to be the highest ever because the older ewes made such good money,” he said.
“We’ve always achieved good money for young ewes in the past, but we’ve never seen this kind of money for 4.5-5.5yo ewes. Considering the market had come back in the past couple of weeks, we were pleasantly surprised at the result.”
Landmark Lameroo livestock manager Michael Lawrence said it was an excellent quality yarding.
“Lameroo always has some of the best sheep in the state and the prices reflected that,” he said.
“There was very good support on the young ewes, as we expected, and the older ewes sold to stronger demand.”
The second highest price pen of the sale came from DK&DM Farr, Loxton, with 168 Ridgway Advance-blood young ewes selling for $280, also to TDC Penola.
Also selling at the top-end of the sale was RM&S Pocock, Lampata, Lameroo, with 205 ewes selling for $274 and 200 at $264.
