BIMBIMBIE Props, Penola, will offer about 500 ewes at the Naracoorte blue ribbon first-cross sale next month.
The Lambert family has been breeding ewes for their prime lamb enterprise for nearly two decades, but have had surplus ewes recently.
“It is about value-adding our breeding product,” John Lambert said. “Rather than selling ewe lambs and buying in store lambs to fatten, we keep the ewe lambs another year and put $100 on them in the process.”
The 1.5-year-old ewes are sired by Morton Border Leicesters and are out of large-framed, plain-bodied Merinos bought from the Mid North and Mallee.
“We want to breed a solid, large-framed ewe that can handle the conditions and breed a second-cross lamb with an early finishing, meat yielding carcase,” Phil Lambert said.
