FLOODED roads didn’t deter buyers at this year’s Dell African Dumisa Dorper and White Dorper sale.
It was only the van Niekerk family’s fifth sale at Fairfield Farm, Moama, NSW, but the breadth and quality of the offering highlighted a much longer commitment to the breeds. Andrea van Niekirk made special note of the attendance of her grandfather. The Dumisa name used at the stud derives from his well-known Dumisa Hereford stud in South Africa.
The sale started with the 51 Dorper rams and was quickly up to pace with lots 5 and 6 both reaching a sale high of $6000 for the black headed variety.
Lot 5 Dell Dorpers “Mufasa” 150120 that weighed 98kg at six months and was a type C4T5 sold via AuctionsPlus to repeat buyers John and Trish Genoni, Ambleside Dorper & White Dorper Studs, WA. Ms Genoni said she had immense faith in Andrea’s ability to understand her flock and supply quality animals.
The sale of lot 6 Dell Dorpers 150069 AI was somewhat of a homecoming, purchased by Rod Chalmers and family along with manager Rebecca Dalla, Neimur Dorpers, Barham NSW. Niemur Stretch was the sire of this ram’s dam who is one of Dell top breeders.
The strong prices continued in the White Dorpers with Lot 70 catching the most attention and reaching the top price of $10,000.
Dumisa "ACE JNR" sold to Cherilyn Lowe, Nomuula Dorper & White Dorper Studs, Moonbi, NSW. Stuart Green, AWN, purchased the ram on her behalf. Ms Lowe said she really liked the female line behind the ram particularly for milk qualities and fertility.
The ewe portion of the sale in both varieties didn’t disappoint either. Lot 92 sold to Grant and Julie Glinski, Wirlinga Park Dorpers & White Dorper Studs, Albury, NSW, for top price of $2900. Ms Glinski said the ewe ticked all the boxes.
The top-priced White Dorper ewe was Lot 113 that sold for $1300 to Phil Pickles, Junortoun, who took home three more ewes.
The sale achieved a total clearance of the 115 lots, with stud and commercial buyers active from three states.
