HIGH Lambplan indexing rams sold to three states during Majardah Poll Dorset and White Suffolk stud’s second annual sale at Glencoe on Monday.
In a total clearance, the Price family sold 120 Poll Dorsets to $1900, averaging $1230, and 20 White Suffolks to $1100, averaging $850. The overall sale average lifted $150.
Repeat and new buyers appreciated the top genetics.
The Longbottom family, Boatswains Point, bought the two $1900 top price Poll Dorset rams.
Lot 19 – a son of Majardah 3770/13 – had a carcase plus index of 213 with figures of 0.27 for birthweight, 10 weaning weight, 16.3 post weaning weight, 2.5 eye muscle depth, -0.8 fat depth and -42 for worm resistance.
The ram was used in the stud as a lamb and had progeny on the ground.
Lot 20 was a son of Majardah 2853/12 and had a carcase plus index of 214.
“We were very pleased with the Majardah rams we bought last year, so we returned for more,” Mr Longbottom said.
A new client from WA will take 11 rams back over the border.
The stud, which is a member of Meat Elite, has focused on using industry leading rams and this was reflected in the Lambplan Carcase plus index average of 198.
Majardah stud co-principal Adam Price said the family have birth weighed and tagged more than 1100 stud lambs this year with both visual and electronic identification tags, to ensure accurate pedigrees and accurate Australian Sheep Breeding Values.
“We endeavour to present rams in the top 20 per cent on Lambplan with highly accurate ASBVs so our clients can purchase with confidence,” he said.
“Combining ASBVs and good conformation is important for our clients’ ongoing success.”
Elders and Miller Whan & John conducted the sale.
