An outstanding result was achieved at the Brooks family's annual on-property East Bungaree Poll Merino and Merino sale at Hallett on Tuesday, September 20.
There were a total of 300 rams sold and offered. The average was $1707, slightly up on last year’s $1669, but there were 60 more rams offered this year.
A top price of $11,000 was made twice.
The buyer of last year’s top price ram, Mark Hoffrichter, of the Maramville Poll Merino stud, Ceduna, also took this year’s sale-topper.
The Poll Merino weighed 126 kilograms with 20.1 micron fleece with 2.6 standard deviation, 12.9 coefficient of variation and 99.8 per comfort factor.
Mr Hoffrichter also bought another Poll Merino at $5000.
He has been buying from East Bungaree for the past four years.
“I like the size and the structure of East Bungaree sheep, along with their doing-ability and wool quality,” he said.
Mr Hoffrichter said the wool quality and the size of the top price ram led him to bid up.
He was also impressed by the ram’s sire – Jonty – saying it had bred some excellent sheep.
The other top price ram was bought by Landmark Burra for an undisclosed client.
It was a Poll Merino weighing 115kg with 18.2M fleece, with 3.2 SD, 17.1 CV and 99.8 CF.
