IT was a fine day at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds as studs converged for the annual Karoonda and Districts Merino Field Day.
Seventeen studs gathered to display a selection of high quality rams before their on-property sales begin.
There was a focus on plain-bodied, dual purpose sheep with long-staple wool.
Despite the day being perfect for spraying, Karoonda and Districts Stud Merino Field Day Association president Stephen Koehler said there was a fantastic turnout in the morning.
“There wasn’t any tyre kickers, there was genuine people looking at sheep,” he said.
Mr Koehler said there was a lot of good wools, interspersed with studs focused on breeding dual purpose sheep.
“Everyone’s got beautiful, crimpy white wools. It’s fantastic,” he said.
“It varies to what we’re trying to breed. There’s a few of us trying to breed rams that are more meaty, as well as trying to grow the wool, and there’s guys that are out-and-out trying to grow the best fibre they can.”
