A 34-year-old man has sustained serious internal injuries after a helicopter crash at Rivington Station via Isisford on Wednesday morning.
Longreach District Police Inspector, Mark Henderson said the well-known and respected Isisford resident was found by an Ergon Energy helicopter pilot who’d been dispatched to find the source of a blackout in the area at 10.30am on Wednesday, June 27.
“The Ergon pilot found the man in the wreckage of a Robinson R22 light helicopter at 1.30pm on Wednesday but was unable to render any assistance,” Inspector Henderson said.
“He returned to Blackall and alerted authorities after which Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance Service were dispatched,” he said.
He said it took nearly two hours for the scene to be located by emergency services as the location is quite secluded.
“Paramedics attended the man at the scene of the accident and were able to stabilise him.
“He was transported by road at 5.45pm to Isisford where he was airlifted to Brisbane for treatment where he is still in a serious condition.”
He said police are at the scene of the crash now conducting a follow up investigation.
