NARACOORTE
Yarding: 775
337 steers to $1575.50
438 heifers to $1210
LIGHTWEIGHT steers made up to an incredible $4.97 a kilogram at the monthly Naracoorte store sale on Thursday last week.
After good general rains and with plenty of grass in the paddock, prices went skywards on all classes of cattle, local graziers and feedlotters competing on a reduced yarding of 775 cattle, the majority yarded being within the 250-300kg weight range.
Southern Australian Livestock agent Will Nolan believes this was possibly the dearest store market ever seen at Naracoorte.
He said graziers, having had returns of $2000-$2500 for bullocks, weren’t thinking twice about paying $3.50/kg-plus for store cattle, adding there were some exciting times ahead for the cattle industry with anyone already on board with trading, reaping the rewards for their efforts.
