The milk price crisis has prompted a change in the leadership structure at Australia's peak dairyfarmer representative organisation Australian Dairy Farmers.
President Simone Jolliffe has stepped down from that role to take on a newly created deputy president role, while South Australian dairyfarmer David Basham has assumed the role of acting president.
The organisation said the restructure was in response to "unprecedented challenges resulting from the dairy industry shock".
Mrs Jolliffe said her intention as deputy president was to build stronger links with grassroots farmers and ensure ADC focused on long-term strategic initiatives including herd improvement, farm business management and on-farm safety.
Mr Basham will step aside as president of the South Australian Dairyfarmers Association, a role he has held for the past 11 years.
His immediate challenge will be to represent the dairy industry nationally as it responds to unfolding market circumstances.
ADF will maintain pressure on the federal government and the opposition as the July 2 election approaches.
