Hundreds of people took to the streets of Melbourne today at a rally in support of the Australian dairy industry.
Hundreds have marched from Federation Square to Parliament House in Melbourne calling for a government solution on the dairy crisis.
The march, organised by Farmer Power kicked off at 12:30pm.
The dairy crisis was caused by retrospective price cuts to value of farm-gate milk prices from Australia’s biggest dairy co-operative Murray Goulburn and New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra.
The milk price revision retrospectively slashed 2015-16 southern farmgate payments from $5.60 a kilogram (milk solids) to $4.75/kg, leaving farmers reeling.
