Upper South East landholders and Natural Resources South East staff are successfully tackling fox numbers in the region in a collaborative approach.
The Keilira Fox Baiting Group was formed at a breakfast and information session at Keilira last month run by Natural Resources South East. Forty one landholders and four authorised officers met to network and share advice and information on fox control. Participants also discussed the impact of foxes on primary production and the environment, and need for a collaborative baiting approach.
Upper South East authorised officer Roger Davidson praised the group’s formation and said the group’s baiting had already covered 30,000 hectares. He said the success could be attributed to collaboration between landholders.
“We hope it will encourage other landholders to work together to reduce fox numbers across the region, for the benefit of primary production and for broader environmental outcomes,” he said.
The Keilira Fox Baiting Group covers the Hundreds of Minecrow, Murrabinna, Landseer, Duffield, Marcollat, Peacock and adjoining properties outside the Kingston district.
