VIC youngster Emily Attard has the world at her feet after winning the New Zealand study tour bursary at the inaugural SA Sheep Expo last week.
The first year University of Melbourne Bachelor of Agriculture student was “absolutely thrilled” to win the major award, sponsored by the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association and the Sheep Meat Council of Australia.
The 18-year-old from Mornington Peninsula said there were many highlights from the three-day expo at the Adelaide Showground including “hands on learning” and mentoring her “buddy”.
Ms Attard’s interest in sheep began three years ago as a member of the show team at Flinders Christian Community College.
Her next project with friend and fellow expo entrant Kate Methven is to establish their own Corriedale stud.
“Farming is the future,” she said.
“We have to feed the world.”
