ONE of South Australia’s most iconic station holdings has come onto the market at a time when station opportunities are scarce.
Mount Lyndhurst Station covers 348,900-hectares (862,150 acres) is located at the head of the Strzelecki Track. The homestead is located 37km east of Lyndhurst and 335km north east of Port Augusta.
The station is currently carrying about 1580 cattle and 9549 sheep plus lambs and is being offered on a walk-in, walk-out basis. The SA Pastoral Board maximum rating for the property is 6800 cattle or 34,000 sheep.
Mt Lyndhurst will be auctioned by Landmark Harcourts in Adelaide on April 8.
Mount Lyndhurst was once a part of the massive Beltana Pastoral Company which was owned by the Barr Smith family, one of the original owners of Elders.
Mount Lyndhurst is now a stand alone pastoral holding that is strategically located on the watershed of the Northern Flinders Ranges which runs water into a myriad of 13 creeks flooding out to the north of the station run. The annual average rainfall is about 170mm with 63mm falling in the most recent rains over December and January. The station is watered by 17 bores, four wells and 15 dams.
There have been extensive improvements to the water and infrastructure during the past 10 years. The historic circa-1877 12-stand stone shearing shed is a feature. Improvements have also been made to the living quarters, shearer’s quarters and outbuildings.
The four-bedroom homestead is loaded with historical character and features. A renovated historic stone living quarters also offers four-bedroom accommodation. Two other outstation homes could serve as additional accommodation or for tourists.
There are sheep yards for working 5000 head located adjacent to the shearing shed. There are also two other sets of main sheep yards and two sets of cattle yards around the station.
Marketing agent Simon McIntyre, Landmark Harcourts, said the improvements would enhance the strong reputation Mt Lyndhurst has enjoyed for its ability to run and carry sheep and cattle with its feature flood out characteristics.
