DETAILS on proposed big ticket projects in Etheridge Shire will be presented to the second annual economic development forum.
The two-day event, on 17 and 18 February, will start with the history of the council’s partnership with Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia and results from the inaugural forum held last year.
Local success stories from Bedrock Village, GRAP and the Gulf Cattleman’s Association will be presented.
Representatives from proponents of big-ticket projects in the shire will tell the forum what their projects mean for the region.
They will include Genex, which recently got council approval to build a $300 million solar farm at the disused Kidston Gold Mine site, Infigen and Georgetown Gold.
The afternoon will lay the platform for a presentation by keynote speaker, Jim Engelke, General Manager Kimberley Agricultural Investment, Western Australia, Wednesday night.
Day two of the forum will hear how the Queensland Department of State Development supports growth in regional Queensland.
A group discussion will follow on how the region will move forward to create a stronger economy, which leverages off the region’s natural advantages, industry strengths, emerging opportunities, existing expertise and future potential.
The final session will discuss the future for the region’s key industries including primary production, tourism, resources and small to medium commerce.
