STANDOM Smallgoods has earned bragging rights for selling the nation’s best sausages.
At the Australian Meat Industry Council’s national Sausage King Awards in Brisbane last weekend, the Adelaide-based wholesaler and retailer took out the top gong in the Traditional Australian section.
“Sausages are a big deal for us,” Standom representative Franz Knoll said. “We make about 35 different varieties each week, from fresh herbs to Thai chicken with coconut cream.”
Mr Knoll says the difference comes from good quality mince meat and the right balance of flavours.
“It is an incredible seventh year straight a SA business has won the Traditional Australian,” he said.
Standom has shops at Seaton, St Clair, Central Market, Gepps Cross, and Newton.
Clare butcher Jason Mathie, Mathie’s Meat Shoppe, came up trumps in the Burger competition with his saltbush lamb ‘Bush Burger’.
Twenty-year-old Ryan Doherty from Bruces Meat’s Pasadena store was named Apprentice of the Year.
