Stock Journal was given a tour of Oulnina Station at Mannahill by Maurice and Janet Francis.

The historic shearing shed once had up to 40 blade shearers treading the boards. Today there are six hand-piece stands.

This six-metre table was built inside the shearers quarters in the 1940s and because it is so long, it has never been moved.

The historic shearing shed had the capacity to house 1100 woolly sheep.

Oulnina's self-replacing Merino sheep are run on native grasses and saltbush, which is starting to suffer on some of the properties from the dry times.

Oulnina Station has a peak on-property, Mt Pepurarta, which is 2225 feet above sea level. Oulnina Station consists of four adjoining properties, totaling 1422 square kilometres and running 27,000 Merino sheep. 

This tank, built in the late 1800s, holds about 150,000 litres. The water within was once used to scour wool before being sent direct to London.

Solar energy is used to pump the water throughout each Oulnina station, along with the use of many windmills.
