BROTHERS Bob and Leo Casey sold their Westbury Downs property north-west of Peterborough last February to retire and chose the Jamestown market on Thursday last week to disperse their Merino flock.
They offered nearly 1400 head, including 800 ewes and 600 mixed sex lambs, mainly January-shorn, April/May-drop Yatgala-North Ashrose bloods.
Their 170 2013-drops topped the breeding ewe section of the market at $136, while 238 2014-drops sold at $122 to Elders Jamestown.
Another 170 2012-drop ewes made $115, while 170 2010-drops made $92.
Their 2015-drop ewes made $82 for 315, while their brothers – 263 wethers – made $78, with both pens going to Hill Livestock.
Westbury Downs has been in the Casey family since 1876, with Bob and Leo the third generation on-farm.
The new owners take over in February after the brothers’ on-property clearing sale, which is being held on Friday, February 12.
