THERE was an improved clearance and average at the Chesson Park White Suffolk/Updown Park Suffolk stud sale of Ian and Helen Cass at Loxton on Monday.
Mr Cass said he was very happy with the sale results, which were helped along by return buyers from the Upper North.
"Having those volume buyers return made a huge difference, and really put a base in the sale," he said.
"In terms of price, it was a very even sale all the way through the catalogue, with no ridiculous prices."
The sale averaged $811 and a 95 per cent clearance.
White Suffolks averaged $827 for 67 sold out of 70 offered.
Of the Suffolks, 15 out of 16 sold averaging $703.
The Hampel family, Nadda, which has bought from Mr Cass since Chesson Park started in 1990, bought the $1500 top-price ram, a 79-kilogram White Suffolk with an eye muscle area of 23.42 square centimetres. It was by Chesson Park 66/08, the top scanning and heaviest White Suffolk ram in the stud's 2009 sale line-up.
The Hampels also took a further four rams to the second-highest price of $1300.
The $850 top-price Suffolk - 80kg with 21.02sqcm EMA - went to regular buyer Jachmann Farming, Loxton. Jachmann took a further four rams to $750.
Buyers were mainly local or from the Upper North and Vic Mallee.
