GLENLEA Park stud at Pinnaroo celebrated its 50th year breeding Merinos in spectacular fashion, notching up one of the best on-property sales of the season.
A large crowd of 56 registered bidders from three states packed into Peter and Marianne Wallis' magnificent new ram shed and pursued the stud's genetics with vigour.
In the breakdown 128 of 133 largely April-May 2013 drops averaged just shy of $2000 - a rise of $173 on their 2013 sale.
In the Poll Merinos - 121 of 124 rams averaged $2020 - seven of the nine horned rams averaged $1600.
An ET-bred spring-drop ram - 885 - soared to the $8400 top price.
It was the stud's second- highest on-property price in 38 years of sales.
The 115 kilogram, August 2013-drop ram lamb had created plenty of interest in the lead-up to sale day, being displayed at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in Bendigo, Vic, and Hamilton Sheepvention, Vic.
He was knocked down to Will Lynch, Boorana Merinos, Woorndoo, Vic, who was pushed all the way by Glenlea Park stud classer Bill Walker, Classings Limited for Calcookara stud, Cowell.
Mr Lynch said the 18.7- micron ram had an "exceptional pedigree" with his sire GP739 also having tremendous early growth-120 kilograms at 11-months.
Its mother was a full flush sister to GP380, in which Boorana owns a half-share with Glenlea Park.
"I am a big believer in the strength of maternal pedigrees," Mr Lynch said.
Boorana Merinos also bought another ram later in the sale for $4300.
The sale's second-top price of $7000 also headed into Vic, bought by Trevor and Russell Gordon, Goldalea Poll Merinos, Dunkeld,Vic.
Trevor said the 19.1M GP739 son appealed for its "wool density".
Nantoura stud, Wharminda, buying through Bill Walker secured a 20.3M son of GP004 for $6250.
Len Mathews, Bulgandri Poll Merino stud, Rand, NSW, was the volume stud buyer with three rams to a $5400 high.
In total 14 rams sold to studs in Vic, NSW, WA and SA.
