A FOCUS on estimated breeding values led to a total clearance at the eighth ram sale for Hill View Dohnes, Streaky Bay, on August 22.
The entire catalogue of 57 rams cleared to a top of $3000, averaging $1108, at the Helmsman auction.
The ram topper will be a new sire at the Eagle Ridge Dohne Stud, Cowell, with estimated breeding values impressing buyer Paul Webb.
The ram had an index of 150.9, EBVs of 20 average fleece weight, 5.7 body weight and 18.8 micron.
Hill View co-principal Heather Holmes said the sale offered up an even line of sheep with mostly positive wool figures.
She said EBVs had been a focus of their stud since its formation in 2000 and they stressed its importance to all buyers.
Volume buyers included Philip Wheaton, Dion Trezona and Ian Kenny, all from Streaky Bay, who bought five rams each, as did Andrew Patterson, Wirrulla.
The Helmsman auction was conducted by Landmark Streaky Bay.
