KANIVA'S Duenclin stud in Vic achieved a very solid result at its 16th annual stud and flock ram sale with a $3000 high and a wide geographical spread of buyers.
Two of the four breeds on offer were in strong demand, with 81 of 109 White Suffolk rams averaging a creditable $885 and 60 of 70 Border Leicesters averaging $800.
But the lack of buyers for Prime SAMM and maternal composites (SAMM-Border Leicester and SAMM-White Suffolk) saw the overall clearance rate drop to 65 per cent clearance.
The Huxtable family sold 155 of 238 rams averaging $835 to buyers from the South East, and the west Wimmera and Western Districts of Vic.
The $3000 top came from the helmsman auction of stud White Suffolk rams held before the flock ram auction.
A July 2013-drop ram which had been shown at the recent Royal Adelaide Show and had weighed more than 130 kilograms with scan figures of 51 millimetres eye muscle depth and 10mm fat was knocked down to LR Polkinghorne, Charinga stud, Berrimal, Vic.
The ram - a son of Duenclin 453/10 - was big, stylish and had very clean points.
Charinga also bought another late June 2013-drop stud ram with strong Suffolk characteristics at $2000.
Three Naracoorte buyers dominated the White Suffolk catalogue - SJ &PJ CLARK with six rams to $950; PR & JL CLARK with nine rams to $1200 and CM&MJ Patterson with 11 rams to $800.
The $1300 top-price Border Leicester ram, which had terrific muscle expression, sold to new clients McPiggery at Lameroo, which bought five Border Leicester rams averaging $1010.
Other volume Border Leicester buyers were Wheaton Farms with five and Steve White six.
Sixty of the 70 Border rams on offer were $uperBorders, and of these, 55 found homes.
There was only the one Prime SAMM buyer, Barry Hawker, Modbrim Pty Ltd, Kaniva, who bought six at $700.
