KIANDRA Poll Merino stud posted a jump in average of more than $200 compared with 2013, at its 19th annual on-property ram sale at Senior, north of Bordertown on September 15, thanks to strong support from Eyre Peninsula and the South East.
While it was a long drive for many loyal clients of the stud to travel to its new home, they were rewarded with heavy cutting sheep with good white wools and outstanding test figures.
Until 2005 Kiandra was based at Lock on EP.
The top-end bidding was particularly strong, reaching $3200, but there were plenty of value buys - 17 rams sold at $600 to $800.
Stud principals Ryan and Sarah Kluska sold 51 of their 69 April and August 2013-drop rams for a $1178 average.
In their first year selling rams with ASBVs the Kluskas excelled - many were in the top 10 per cent of the MerinoSelect database for yearling body weight and clean fleece weight.
The natural doing-ability of the rams was also evident, with many pushing 100 kilograms straight out of the paddock.
Among these top performers was the $3200-top price ram - tag 130801, which had an outstanding clean fleece weight in the top 1pc at +28.1 and top 5pc for yearling weight at 7.8. The Leahcim 714 son measured 21-microns with 3.5 standard deviation, 16.6 coefficient of variation and 98.6 per cent comfort factor.
The sale topper went to Robert Copping, Lucindale, who has previously bought rams from Kiandra privately. He also secured another ram during the sale at $1400.
