PASADENA'S Daniel Lutz continued on his winning way at the Royal Adelaide Show, with victory in the Prime SAMM ram young judges competition following his win in the state meat sheep young judges final earlier in the show.
Daniel, 21, edged out runner-up Urrbrae Agricultural High School student Lewis Parkin, 13, Athelstone, and third-placed Victoria Ghezzi, Naracoorte, to score the win.
Over-judge Des Twartz, Deep Creek Prime SAMMs, Sutherlands, praised Daniel's confident approach during his oral presentation.
"His explanations of why he placed each ram where he did were absolutely fabulous," Mr Twartz said. "He looked up and maintained eye contact with the audience, which is crucial if you want them to have confidence in your judging abilities."
A winner in 2010, Daniel said he entered the competition to practice his public speaking.
"It meant a lot to me that the judge commented on my presentation - I entered to try and work on my explanations and get more practice," he said.
"I don't have a lot of experience with the breed, but what I do know I picked up from breeders I talk to here at the show.
"You're looking for a dual-purpose animal with great carcase and muscle, good bone and a real presence in the showring, but it must also have a consistent fleece."
