A "WELL shaped ram with white sweet wool" from the Collinsville Premier 120102 bloodline, bred by the Roemahkita stud at Cummins, has taken out the Eyre Peninsula hogget ram competition today.
The AI poll ram was out of a Wallaloo Park 780 daughter.
He weighed 103 kilograms at 14 months and measured 20.2 micron, 3.6 standard deviation, 17.9 co-efficient of variation, and 99.4 per cent comfort factor.
Judge Colin McCrabb, Avenel, Wanganella, NSW, was full of praise for the ram, and the Collandra North ram in second place.
Roemahkita stud principals Joe and Tracey Dahlitz said the ram would be reserved for on-farm use.
The Dahlitzs had 17 other show and sale rams on display at the EP Stud Merino Breeders Pre-Sale Expo at the Wudinna Showground.
They were one of 16 Merino and Poll Merino studs participating in the field day, showcasing more than 200 rams.
EP Stud Merino Breeders Association president Chris Prime, Nantoura, Wharminda, said the expo showcased the fantastic rams being bred on the EP, and was hopeful of a good ram selling season.
A product auction was also held at the expo, raising about $3400 for the association.
Elders was the field day's major sponsor, while Pringles Ag donated the hogget competition major prize of a John Deere D100 ride-on lawnmower.
