THERE'S no doubt SA is home to some of Australia's best and most iconic wine regions.
So it would only be fitting that it become the star of the second season of satirical wine show Plonk.
The show takes a comedic and insightful look at the trials and tribulations of making what is probably the world's worst wine show, while also showcasing the state's wine regions, some of their quirky characters and the idiosyncracies of the wine industry.
Plonk is the brainchild of Nathan Earl, who directs and stars in the show alongside The Chaser's Chris Taylor and 'The Expert', Barossa-born Joshua Tyler.
Its first series of five episodes aired on the web with support from the NSW Government.
The second series will air exclusively on Stan - a new video streaming on-demand service - in June.
"SA is the food and wine capital of Australia, it was only fitting for Plonk to film in our state and shine the spotlight on our inspiring wine stories," said agriculture minister Leon Bignell.
"We have such an incredible spectrum of wines on offer from the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills and Adelaide.
"South Australian wineries, restaurants, events and winemakers feature heavily throughout the six-episode series, showcasing our regions and experiences to a national and international audience.
"As well as a host of top Australian winemakers, the program will feature cameos from food legend Maggie Beer, celebrity sommelier Matt Skinner, comedian Greg Fleet and Premier Jay Weatherill.
"The South Australian wine industry has some of the most interesting stories to tell and to hear them from our wine personalities will leave a lasting impression."
Plonk co-executive producer Georgie Lewin said the team were honoured to be able to meet, consult and work alongside such passionate and dedicated winemakers.
"Wine regions don't come bigger, bolder and more diverse than SA," said creator Nathan Earl.
"We were thrilled that the state government could see the merits of Plonk and invited us into their amazing state to film."
Plonk presenter Chris Taylor said the warmth and generosity of SA's wine industry was second to none and he had met some"amazing" winemakers.
"I was mortified when I was not asked to be on 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here' but doing another season of Plonk was the next best thing," he said.
