CATTLE prices eased slightly at the fortnightly Mount Pleasant market yesterday, according to Landmark Anderson & Fawcett Mount Pleasant auctioneer Colin Fawcett, in line with other recent sales.
"Quality steers sold around the $3 a kilogram mark, while the same steers would have made $3.30/kg at the last sale," he said.
About 170 cattle were yarded, with prices peaking at $1700 for a Murray Grey cow and calf unit from SB&R Vivian, Cowirra, via Mannum, while a single Angus cow from RG Siedel, Sedan, made $1600.
Steers sold to $1520 for a Hereford from Mould Nominees, Mount Pleasant, while MPC&SJ Brown, Kyneton, sold three Angus trade steers at $1400.
Red Poll-Hereford heifers from CM Bond, Walker Flat, aged about 11 months, sold to the heifer top-price of $1180.
A handful of bulls were also offered making from $800 to $1040.
About 1675 sheep and lambs were also yarded, with prices fully firm to dearer on the last sale, according to Mr Fawcett.
"We still had quite a few fresh lambs, which is pretty good for this time of year," he said.
Crossbred lambs made to $130 twice, with the first pen of 25 Suffolk-Merinos from MC&ML Mitchell, Eden Valley, while the second pen were 78 BLMo-Dorset second cross lambs from DG Noblet, Tungkillo.
There were minimal wethers and hoggets on offer, making to $76 and $81 respectively.
