THE Fleurieu Prime Ram sale returned to Strathalbyn for its second year with four vendors and four breeds on October 7.
Loch Sloy Suffolk, Maydale Suffolk, Pebblestone Romney and Border Leicesters and Windy Hill Suffolk studs offered rams in the sale.
The top price was $1000, paid for a Romney ram from the Pebblestone stud, Macclesfield.
Stud principal Helen Wright said the ram had always impressed her.
He was bought by EB,JL&KI Williams, Tukimbina stud, Farrell Flats, who saw the ram at the Royal Adelaide Show and decided then that they wanted to buy him.
Ms Wright said the sale was started last year as a way for some smaller breeders to get together and have a ram sale.
"This year we had a pretty good run and hopefully next year will be as good or even better," she said.
Landmark auctioneer Gordon Wood, who conducted the sale, said the standard of rams was as good as any seen across SA.
"They were rewarded this year after a fairly tough sale last year," he said.
Volume buyer Peter Dunn, Dunn Grazing, Strathalbyn, secured eight rams - five from Loch Sloy vendors Wendy and Colin Wilson, two from Roland Floyd, Maydale stud, and one from Pebblestone stud.
