A CLEAR premium was paid for European Union-accredited stock, thanks to stronger than expected results across the board at last Thursdays monthly Naracoorte store sale, where prices were $50-$70 above pre-sale forecasts.
Weights and quality were better than expected.
Heavier steers were keenly by TFI, Princess Royal, Teys Charlton, and local graziers.
Naracoorte agents Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen had most of the 1796 head yarding with several vendors nominating large runs of good-quality cattle.
Steers 400kg-plus made $1.71-$1.99/kg, 350-400kg steers $1.67-$2.22/kg, 300-350kg steers $1.48-$2.22/kg, and lighter
steers $1.54-$2.12/kg.
The $855 or $1.85/kg top was for a pen of 16 May/June 2013-drop Angus and Angus-cross steers, 460kg, a/c PJ&MJ Bellinger, with a second draft, 423kg, to $810 or $1.91/kg.
Avonel Pastoral sold eight Hereford-cross steers, March/April 2013-drop, EU and PCAS-accredited, 488kg, made $835 or $1.71/kg to Princess Royal, which also bought a second pen of Avonel steers, 427kg, at $850 or $1.99/kg.
Elfini sold 23 EU-accredited Angus steers, 391kg, at $840 or $2.14/kg to Princess Royal and a second pen, 356kg, at $765 or $2.14/kg
Morambro Pastoral sold 118 October and November 2013, Te Mania and Hazeldean blood EU and PCAS accredited Angus steers for an average of $717 or $2.16/kg, the top pen, 362kg, selling at $805 or $2.22/kg.
Munga Developments sold 236 Angus Creek and Stoney Point blood PCAS-accredited Angus steers av $610 or $2.05/kg, the top pen, 357kg, returning $740 or $2.07/kg.
Emu Springs sold 132 Hereford steers av $506 or $1.90/kg, the top pen of nine, 373kg, selling at $620 or $1.85/kg.
Wonarah offered 54 Willalooka-blood September/October 2013-drop PCAS-accredited Angus steers to $845 or $1.94/kg for 15 at 435kg av $733 or $2.01/kg.
RT&RA Bradey sold 74 Angus and Angus-cross steers, the top pen 320kg returning $630 or $1.96/kg.
PM&RL Gericke sold five EU-accredited Simmental/Angus/Shorthorn steers 369kg, at $680 or $1.84/kg.
N&S Smith, Katalpa, sold 44 July/August 2013-drop Ironbark/Bra-ma-blood PCAS- and EU-accredited Hereford steers, the tops, av 348kg at $765 or $2.19/kg and an overall av of $717 or $2.16/kg.
