MURRAY Bridge's second prime lamb sale for the new season on August 25 continued in good form following the previous fortnight's sale, yarding about 7300 lambs and only slightly back in price.
The top lambs of the day were 31 crossbreds sold by Bruce Kuchel, Robinville, Murray Bridge, at $135.
They were part of a mob of 198 he sold that day, and were by White Suffolk sires from dams with "a bit of Dohne in them".
Elders Murray Bridge's Phil Nagel said the quality on the top end of the lambs this year was equal to better than the previous sale, and all sold at strong rates.
"There was an increase in light trade and store lambs as a result of the extended dry period and frosts, yet these sold to strong processor and grazier competition to be firm to dearer," he said.
Landmark Murray Bridge's Kevin Keller agreed that with the season starting to look dry, there were a few more lighter lambs.
Murray Bridge will feature a wether lamb sale on September 8, store ewe sale on September 12, and prime lamb sales on September 15 and 29.
