BOTH top price and average were up for the Graham family at the Glencorrie Border Leicester ram sale at Sandilands on October 17.
A promising $926 average - up from $871 last year - underpinned a top of $1800, while the clearance of 43 rams from 77 offered was an indicator of the dry conditions many producers are experiencing.
Despite the conditions, the full draft of sale rams averaged 108 kilograms when weighed the week of the sale.
Last year's top price buyer Martin Hann, Nampara Pastoral Company, Penola, returned to again secure the top sire.
The twin-born ram was by Morton 3, and headed to the South East along with a paternal brother secured for $1700.
Mr Hann said the two rams "had what they needed" and were an even, well-matched pair.
"Both are by the same sire so I can use them without (having to use) a single sire and next year bring in new blood," he said.
"The rams are good so it's worth the trip."
One other ram made the second-top price of $1700, a son of Bindaree 135 secured by MG&R Harris, through SAL Kimba.
Volume buyers included EL&LA Short, Curramulka, five rams to $1200, averaging $1020.
EH Pitt, Lucindale, bought five, averaging $960, and Lenton Pty Ltd, Minlaton, also bought five averaging $760.
RN&KA Fielding, through Elders Jamestown, and M Spicer & K Driver, through Elders Kingscote, each bought four, averaging $700 and $750 respectively.
Stud principal Craig Graham said the $1800 top was the best price they had received for a ram this year.
"It's great that the average is up," he said.
"I think the dry conditions affected things a bit clearance-wise though."
The sale was conducted by Elders, with Tony Wetherall the auctioneer.
