THERE was an improved top, average and clearance at Paul and Jacqui Webb's Eagle Ridge Dohne sale at Cowell on Wednesday, August 26.
The average was a healthy $1048, up $294 on the 2014 sale.
Clearance was at 75 per cent, with 30 out of 40 rams selling.
The top price ram was $800, up on the previous year at $2600. The May 2014-drop ram weighed 98 kilograms with a fat score of 5 and 44.2 millimetre eye muscle depth. Its fleece was 18 micron with 99.4 per cent comfort factor.
Bill Nosworthy, Nosworthy Family Trust, Sheringa, bought the top-price ram.
Mr Nosworthy has been buying from Eagle Ridge for the past four years.
He said there was plenty to like about the ram.
"The ram's got good statistics and nice, soft, classy wool," he said.
Mr Nosworthy said he continued to come back to Eagle Ridge because the rams were "very naturally presented, straight from the paddock".
"I know that what I see here at the sale, is what I'm going to get when I get them back home," he said.
Mr Nosworthy bought two more rams to $1800.
Eyre Peninsula buyers included M&B Churchett, Cowell, four rams to $900; Howard Lee, Lee Family Trust, Wirrulla, three to $1700; Brendan Kenny, DM Kenny Nominees, Darke Peak, three to $1200; Peter Holmes, PL&HA Holmes, Wirrulla, two at $1600; Geoff Piggott, GW&WT Piggott, Cowell, two to $1700, KJ&B Smith, Verran, two to $1000 and Greg Williams, Jogilma, Cowell, two to $800.
Mr Webb said he was very happy with how the sale went, and that it was helped along by a few new clients.
"Having a few new faces helped, and resulted in more bidding," he said.
The stud focuses on producing "true-to-type", paddock-reared rams.
Mr Webb said he was happy with how the rams presented this year, helped along by a "ripper" season at Cowell.
The average micron across the sale team was 19M with 99.2CF and EMD more than 40mm.
The sale was conducted by EP Livestock and Real Estate with Ben Dickenson the auctioneer.
"You can tell the Webb family has put a lot of time and work into their stud, and it's good to see them getting some reward for that," Mr Dickenson said.
