A MAIDEN Limousin heifer has sold for a world record price in the United Kingdom.
Glenrock Illusion sold at the Glenrock herd sale at Carlisle on Friday for 125,000 guineas - about A$232,313 - on behalf of Mr and Mrs Stephen Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie, Dumfries.
The heifer was bought by Mike and Melanie Alford, Foxhill Farm Limousins, Foxhill Farm, Blackborough, Cullompton, Devon, in partnership with Danny Sawrij, Swalesmoor Limousins, Kedzlie Farms Ltd, Kedzlie, Blainslie, Lauderdale, Galashiels.
The sale set a host of new records in being an All-Breeds UK and European record for a bovine, and a world record for a pedigree Limousin animal.
The previous record was A$223,320 for the Limousin bull Dolcorsllwyn Fabio in 2012.
The January 2013 embryo transfer calf, by Goldie's Comet and from Glenrock's herd matriarch Glenrock Spangle, had an illustrious show career behind her.
This included interbreed champion at Cumberland Show, junior Limousin champion and reserve junior interbreed champion at the 2014 Royal Highland Show, junior champion at the 2014 Great Yorkshire Show, Scottish Limousin Grand Prix Champion in August and junior champion and reserve interbreed at the 2013 Stars of the Future Show.
Glenrock Illusion will be flushed at Foxhill Farm before being joined.
