THE Smith family, Smith Farming, Loxton, won ribbons for champion sow and best of breeds in the Royal Adelaide Show Duroc/any other breed section with a Duroc sow from the sow 19 months and above class.
Four breeds were exhibited - Duroc, Hampshire, Saddleback and Tamworth.
Judge Richard Coles, Forbes, NSW, said he liked the older sow for "her power and length" and she stood very well on her feet.
The Davis family, Aroora Enterprises, Murray Bridge, also did very well, taking out junior champion boar and champion boar with a Duroc entry from the boar five months and under seven months class.
Mr Cole said the boar had what he was looking for in a terminal sire.
"When I put my hands on this boar, I imagine he's got between 6 millimetres to 7mm of backfat," he said.
"So he's very lean, but he has a lot of meat on him, with little waste, which is what you're looking for in a terminal sire."
The reserve champion boar and reserve junior champion boar, shown by Michael and Margaret Blenkiron, Gumshire stud, Keyneton, was a Hampshire from the boar under five months class. Mr Cole said the boar was very meaty and "with what I believe would be 5mm to 6mm of backfat".
