INDEPENDENT butchers across SA shared in the spoils at the Australian Meat Industry Council SA Big Night Out, held at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide on the weekend.
The gala dinner, attended by more than 220 people, featured the announcement of state winners of the Sausage King, Best Burger and Smallgoods Competitions held on July 17 at the Adelaide Central Market, and the Apprentice of the Year competition held on August 5 at tafeSA Regency Campus.
These winners had progressed through judging in the five regions - West Coast, Riverland, Mid North, South East and Adelaide Metro.
The council's executive director Paul Sandercock said the standard of the 327 entries this year were comparable to those in 2014.
He said it was an opportunity for SA's 300 independent butchers - 65 per cent of whom are AMIC members - to be acknowledged for a job well done. It was also an exposure for medal winners who enjoyed about a three-fold increase in business which could last for more than a year after the event.
"People really look for that winning product so it does make a difference to the business," Mr Sandercock said.
