FOR the Murraylands team at the Royal Adelaide Show's Young Farmers Challenge on Saturday, it was first time lucky.
All hailing from Pinnaroo, the four members - Jeremy Schutz, Breanna Gregory, Luke Nuske and Joel Heinicke - were last-minute inclusions in the competition, and thrilled to win.
"I was involved in setting up the Bushman's Challenge at the Pinnaroo Show in 2005, which is a very similar competition to the YFC," Jeremy, who is the Pinnaroo Show president, said. His team was pleased with the win.
"It's about getting the city and the country together," Jeremy said.
"The competition is great and we're looking forward to competing in Sydney or Qld next year."
With Luke, a 2014 Young Rural Ambassador finalist, and present Bushman's Challenge winner, the team was quick out of the starting blocks to win.
Tasks included riding horses over a set course, milking a cow, loading bales of straw onto a Kubota rural terrain vehicle, marking a 'lamb', a knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques, a Dmax ute challenge and skulling a 275-millilitre Farmers Union Iced Coffee.
